Indonesia's resource centre for partnership expertise

Partnerships that outlast the project that funded them.

We bring business, government and community into collaborations that actually work, and keep working after we leave the room.

Why we exist

Collaborations rarely fail for lack of goodwill. They fail because nobody built the structure.

Since 2017 we have bridged the gap between enterprises, government institutions and community stakeholders, turning the global ambition of the Sustainable Development Goals into strategies that survive contact with the ground.

What we do

Three ways we work alongside you

Community engagement sits at the heart of sustainability. It is also where effective dialogue most often stalls, and that is where we come in.

  • Navigating the Partnership Journey

Scoping, planning and advocacy that carry a collaboration from first conversation to signed commitment, and past the point where goodwill alone runs out.

  • Sustainability Programme Management

Shaping partnership strategy for sustainability, from ESG roadmaps and materiality work through to the reporting that has to stand up to scrutiny.

  • In-House & Public Workshops

Accredited partnership brokering training and facilitated dialogue, including the difficult special-interest sessions most teams would rather avoid.

Our principles

Three components that make a partnership hold

The way we work rests on three foundations. A partnership missing any one of them stops the moment its funding does.

  1. Co-Creation

The idea and the design of the collaboration are built together. A plan handed to partners is a plan they will not defend when it gets difficult.

  2. Co-Sharing

Every partner mobilises resources behind the idea. Contribution is what converts an endorsement into a stake.

  3. Co-Risk Taking

When a collaboration fails, responsibility is held by all partners. This is the component most often quietly dropped, and its absence is why partnerships collapse under their first real setback.

Methodology

Four stages of building a sustainable partnership

Our approach to every assignment rests on four core components that together form the foundation stones of a sustainable partnership.

  1. Scoping & Building

Forming the basis on which a relationship can be established: who has a stake, what each party actually needs, and whether there is a shared interest worth building on.

  2. Managing & Maintaining

Developing the key performance indicators against which the quality of the relationship, not merely the delivery of the project, can be measured.

  3. Reviewing & Revising

Reality-checking with stakeholders that the objectives of the relationship are being met, and revising them honestly when they are not.

  4. Sustaining Outcomes

Developing a road map for the resources needed to sustain the relationship over the longer term, so it survives the end of the funding cycle.

Rembuk Akur: a dialogue forum around the Gresik smelter

A facilitated forum bringing local government, communities, universities and NGOs into the economic, social and environmental questions raised by building a smelter in Gresik. Roughly 130 representatives across five sectors took part in the second round alone.

Building a smallholder empowerment programme that holds

As strategic partnership facilitator, we helped integrate social, economic and environmental considerations into the operations of a leading palm oil company, improving smallholder livelihoods while moving farming practice onto a more defensible footing.

An ESG strategy a state-owned enterprise could actually run

Facilitation sessions with the management board and across every division produced an ESG strategy and roadmap, and from it a sustainability report that documents the commitment rather than asserting it.
